Sarah Frieberg was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She earned a Master of Arts in Teaching at the Rhode Island School of Design (2010) and a Bachelor of Fine Art from Sonoma State University where she concentrated in both 3-D and 2-D design; this comprising most of her work, being predominantly installation & sculpture. She has been teaching art since earning her Masters, at all levels from PreK-12 as well as college.

Working with abstraction, symbolic imagery, sacred geometry and meditation, my work exists conceptually between the spiritual and the physical states. It’s sculptural, dimensional, planar and flat. I meld raw materials such as clay, tea grounds, dyes, egg shells and decomposed plant matter.

I am currently exploring themes of stillness, oneness, and simplicity. In my practice I question control and it’s hold on me. I question intuition, it’s unknowingness and consciousness. I question ego and it’s formidable desire to exist. I question creativity as it exists in me and the natural world. Within my process I am engaging the senses of body, feeling, perception, intention and consciousness. I am often inspired by the movement, rhythm, light and monochromatic tones from my surrounding landscapes.
